Types of Disability Benefits in Colorado

Colorado residents may be eligible for the following disability benefit programs:

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

SSDI is a federal program managed by the Social Security Administration (SSA). It’s designed for individuals who have:

• A qualifying disability that’s expected to last at least one year or result in death.
• Worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

SSI is for disabled individuals with limited income and assets, regardless of work history. It provides monthly financial assistance to help cover basic living expenses.

Colorado-Specific Disability Programs

In addition to federal programs, Colorado offers some state-level assistance:

Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND)

This is a state-run cash assistance program for adults who have a disability that’s expected to last at least 6 months. It can help while you're waiting for SSDI or SSI approval.
