How to check your disability claim status in Colorado?

Waiting to hear back about your Social Security Disability (SSDI or SSI) claim can be stressful. Fortunately, the Social Security Administration (SSA) provides several ways for Colorado residents to check the status of their disability claim.

Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.

Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

Why Checking Your Claim Status Matters

Staying informed helps you:

  • Avoid missed communication or document requests
  • Spot delays early
  • Ensure your claim is still active
  • Be prepared for the next step (approval, denial, or appeal)

Ways to Check Your Disability Claim Status in Colorado

1. Use Your “My Social Security” Online Account

The fastest and most convenient method.

You can view:

  • Date your claim was filed
  • Location of the SSA office processing your claim
  • Scheduled hearing dates (if applicable)
  • Documents received or requested

2. Call the SSA Directly

  • National SSA number: 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778)
  • Available Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

You’ll need:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your application confirmation number (if available)

3. Contact Your Local Colorado SSA Office

You can find your nearest SSA field office at: https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp

Call ahead or make an appointment to speak with a representative who can provide claim updates.

4. If You Have a Representative

If you’re working with a disability lawyer or advocate, they can also check the status for you.

What If There’s a Delay?

Disability claims in Colorado often take 3–6 months (or longer). If your status hasn’t changed in a while:

  • Contact the SSA for clarification
  • Confirm that all requested documents have been submitted
  • Consider speaking with a disability attorney if your case is unusually delayed
